Ubiquitous Wall

I’m editing my novel so that it’s more serious.  I had to cut out this metaphor to-day, which I thought was pretty funny:

The second reason that Oliver didn’t think he could shoot anything with his pistol was that he didn’t have the best hand-eye coordination.  His hand dressed in stripes while his eyes usually spotted dots.  Seriously though, he didn’t think that he could aim a gun at something, pull the trigger, and actually hit whatever it was that he had intended the gun to shoot.

“No, give me the past. It doesn’t change; it’s all there in black and white, and you can get to know about it comfortably and decorously and, above all, privately - by reading. … As reading becomes more and more habitual and widespread, an ever-increasing number of people will discover that books will give them all the pleasures of social life and none of its intolerable tedium.” — Crome Yellow - Aldous Huxley

I got this at Half Price Books last week.  It’s Kafka’s “The Metamorphosis,” but instead of turning into a cockroach, Samsa turns into a cat.
