In my on-going project of listening to all of my music, I came to an Everly Brothers’ album. During “That Silvered Hair Daddy of Mine,” I started thinking, “This melody sounds familiar.” I did some Googling, to no avail, but then I remembered the words to the other melody. It’s “Red River Valley.” (I have the Mountain Goats’ Daytrotter version, but there are many others.)
So I synced them. The first verse works really well (especially considered that there are about fifty years between the two recordings). After that, the structure of the two songs differs, so they don’t match up again.
But I felt smart for figuring this out.
